MOTOR LEARNING AND LAWN BOWLS
Emma Davis - Year 12 Physical Education
TRAINING TECHNIQUES AND CONCLUSION
To further enhance my skill level in lawn bowls it is suggested that I train more than 90 minutes a week, practice certain skills and techniques to acquire accuracy and work harder to be more consistent in my performance. When these issues are addressed it will become easier to progress from the associative stage to the autonomous stage. The autonomous stage refers to automatic responses, fewer errors are made, perfecting skills and techniques. Autonomous stage performers are able to recognise when mistakes are made and correct them appropriately (Sports Training Advisor, 2009). For my skill level to progress to the autonomous stage I will require comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of the game.
Based on my performance in lawn bowls throughout the unit it is clear that my skill level is higher than that of a cognitive learner. Due to my knowledge of the skills required to be successful in lawn bowls and my automatic ability to execute a pre-delivery, delivery and follow through suggests that I am at an associative stage in learning. Practising more frequently in different game situations will improve accuracy and help me develop as a player. Progressing to the next level would entail further training, extensive knowledge of techniques and developing skills further to ensure accurate and consistent games.
